We’re looking for an Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR) to build new business lines for us.

We believe business is a team sport.

The sport is about solving customer problems.

The bigger the problem, & the more the people that have it, the more you win.

The score is revenues and profits.

People pay you their hard-earned money to reward you for a job well done solving their problem. They come back to pay you more if nobody else does it better.

Our team is focused on our core business, but along the way, we’ve uncovered some adjacent problems that we believe we are uniquely suited to solve and excel in.

We plan to launch two new business lines and are looking for an EIR to lead and scale each of them.

Some Context on Calo:

Calo is an ambitious startup set on a mission to make healthy easy.

We started <5 years ago with the simple idea that eating good food should not be hard (good food = good for your body, taste buds, & personalized to your nutritional needs). Our main product was meal subscriptions, but we’re expanding to retail and other verticals.

Since then, Calo is now the biggest healthy food brand in the GCC operating in +10 cities, employing +1,000 people, delivering +10,000,000 meals.

But it’s still day 1. We have ambitions of becoming a global brand. Why not? There’s no global food brand positioned to own the ‘healthy’ segment, and we want to win that title starting from the region.

Some Context on the Role:

Our core business is doing well and we want to expand into adjacent markets to attract different customer segments and expand our addressable market.

We are very entrepreneurial as a company, and we love to work with people with a high sense of ownership and agency.

You will essentially be a startup founder who will be given seed funding to build your team and product and get it to PMF as soon as possible.

Since this is an EIR role you will not only manage the digital product but everything else needed to get your product off the ground and get adoption.

You’d control and influence the levers: growth & marketing, operations, product, finance, people & culture, etc.

We will set the strategy and overall vision and get you the resources you need, remove barriers from your way, and support/keep you accountable if needed.

For context, our values are summed up in GOWKII: growth, obsession, winning, kindness, impact, and integrity. Our mission is to make healthy easy, and it’s more than just a statement on the wall for us. It’s a personal mission - we are the people who will make healthy easy.

The Mission

Describing truly what an EIR is very difficult as it’s a very generalist role. It’s essentially doing whatever it takes to get your product off the ground and get it in the hands of millions of people.

You will be assigned clear metrics and expected outcomes to achieve within a defined timeline.

Experience

We like to bet more on character than experience, but the best candidates will have a bit of both.

In an ideal world, you would have:

  1. Started or managed a business before.
  2. Built a 0-1 digital product and scaled it from 1-10.
  3. Have deep customer empathy and have obsession with good for you products.
  4. Have experience making correct product decisions in the presence of major ambiguity.
  5. Have worked on products in domains like e-commerce, marketplace, on-demand, and logistics.
  6. Read a lot of business books, listened to business podcasts, loved the business game and obsessed about winning :)

Anti-List

We thought it would be best to tell you why this job may not be for you.

  • This isn’t a traditional product management role. It involves influencing marketing, growth, CX, operations, logistics, food, and supply chain to bring the product to life.
  • You won’t get much guidance or hand-holding, as the company is focused on building the core. You’ll operate like a startup founder, with Calo acting as a passive investor/incubator, stepping in to support you when needed.
  • It’s a unique opportunity to experience being a startup founder without the stress of fundraising, hiring, or managing G&A. However, you’ll need strong stakeholder management skills to gain attention and support from departments busy with core priorities.
  • The role offers limited cash salary but significant equity. We expect candidates to take a potential pay cut, betting on their ability to deliver results and earn substantial rewards through equity and success bonuses.

Advice on Applying

We get lots of candidates that apply or reach out, and we’re always humbled by the interest. It’s impossible for us to know who’s a killer candidate and who isn’t from a black & white A4. If you put more effort in your application, you’d get more of our attention.

Try recording a 3-minute video telling us why you’d be a great fit for the role, upload it on YouTube and make it unlisted, and share the link in your application.
