Role overview
Key Responsibilities:
- Microbiological Testing:
- Perform a variety of microbiological analyses on a routine basis, including testing raw materials, in-process samples (e.g., prepared sauces, fresh cuts), and finished meal.
- Test for a range of microorganisms, including pathogens (e.g., Listeria, Salmonella, E. coli) and indicator organisms (e.g., total plate count, yeast and mold, coliforms).
- Conduct shelf-life studies and challenge tests to validate product freshness and safety.
- Utilize and maintain laboratory equipment such as incubators, autoclaves, and rapid pathogen detection systems.
- Environmental/Pathogen Monitoring Program (EMP):
- Develop and execute a comprehensive environmental monitoring program for all food preparation and packaging areas.
- Collect and analyze swabs from food contact surfaces, non-food contact surfaces, and the general environment.
- Identify potential harborage sites for pathogens and recommend corrective actions to prevent microbial growth.
- Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Accurately record, analyze, and interpret all microbiological data.
- Prepare and present technical reports on test results, trends, and findings to the Food Safety and Quality Manager and other cross-functional teams.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of a robust data management system for all microbiological information.
- Problem-Solving and Investigation:
- Lead or support investigations into out-of-specification results or customer complaints related to microbial contamination.
- Conduct root cause analysis to identify the source of contamination and implement effective corrective and preventative actions.
- Collaborate with the production, culinary, and supply chain teams to troubleshoot issues and improve processes.
- Compliance and Documentation:
- Ensure all laboratory procedures and documentation adhere to established SOPs, GMPs, and regulatory standards (e.g., SFDA, HACCP).
- Stay current with the latest food safety regulations, testing methodologies, and industry best practices.
- Assist in preparing for and participating in all internal, third-party, and regulatory audits.
Ideal Candidate
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology and Chemistry.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in a food microbiology laboratory, preferably within a high-volume food production, RTE meals, or food service environment
- Must be based in Saudi Arabia
Knowledge and Competency
Proficient in GLP, aseptic techniques, and microbiological laboratory procedures.
Skilled in pathogen detection methods (e.g., PCR, ELISA), rapid testing, and traditional plating techniques.
Solid understanding of HACCP principles and food safety regulations.
Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
Great attention to detail with a results-driven approach.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
